Our Opal Beginning
Idaho Opal Mines is an opal mine in Spencer, Idaho. Our company sells opal jewelry and loose opal gemstones to retail and wholesale markets. We also carry a top brand-name-brand line of diamond cutting saw blades and crystal caps for cutting triplets..
How It All Started
We thought it would be fun to dig around for opal and heard of this opal mine, un-patented and nearly undeveloped in Idaho, so we began Idaho Opal Mines. Soon we found we had the best opal mine North America, and we've proven to even make the Australians raise their eyebrows when they saw what we had. We began the procedures to patent our claim right away, and 12 years later the patent was granted.
How We Made It
Once we were able to cut our opals and set some jewelry, we had to find our market for our American-made products. We began by doing a few gem shows in the winter when we were in California. Then in the summer of 1994, our company started our sole proprietorship in Idaho under the name of Opal Mountain Mines. Setting up a sales trailer in Dubois, we sold to the tourists. In 1993, we started attending gem shows and our wholesale customers grew continuously. Two years later we opened our retail store in Spencer, and we've been growing ever since.
Now We're Done!!!!
After more than 20 years, in 2015, we decided it was time to retire. We have sold our mine and store in Spencer. We did not, however, sell our inventory. We are having a liquidation sale in hopes of depleting our inventory. We have many sizes of finished opal triplets and a very large inventory of glass caps. For high quantity orders, we are offering very good discounts. We are planning to do the gem show in Tucson (February 12-15, 2016) at the Convention Center. We will have the end booth in Aisle 2. This will be our last public appearance, and hope to have all our inventory depleted by then. I will keep our wholesale and retail and caps pages updated weekly showing availability of items. We are in California now, full time, so feel free to call anytime. Or email us with your comments, and include your contact information.
